Farewell from the Story-Bat website (Shut-Down at End of Year)
This is the first and last mass email I will be sending to the addresses you provided with your registration on https://storybat.com.
What is happening?
Story-Bat has been a project for several years now. It is and continues to be an online writing home and community for collaborative story writing and getting help on creating your tales.
However, the website itself that I built up never really got much traction. It has been live for almost two years and the finished stories can be counted with two hands.
Still, I appreciate every moment we had. Every Story-Block we built and every adventure we conquered together.
In the end, projects like these need luck and require being in the right place at the right time. This was apparently not the case for Story-Bat. Or maybe we just lost the competition with other sites or with other pastime activities.
The result is that the website will be taken offline by the end of the year. It will not be accessible anymore to the public and there are currently no projects to modify it or create a better version.
It is really hard for me to end this part of Story-Bat. I…
Moving away from the monthly news post
In favour of investing more time in writing stories and managing the site as well as our social media (Twitter and Discord), we will stop writing monthly posts here in our news section.
If you want to stay up-to-date with Story-Bat, we recommend that you join our Discord chat-server (https://discord.gg/K93FVKH).
As always, we wish you a happy flight~
Server structure improvement for the Story-Bat website
Maintenance Window Time: Thursday, February 6, 2020 @ 01:00 AM CET – for approx. 3 hours
In short: Improvement of the available computational power.
This procedure will greatly improve the website performance during high loads and it will provide the best possible performance without compromising security.
The Story-Bat website will be inaccessible during the maintenance, however, changes to the database will NOT be made in any way. This ensures that none of the content on our site will be affected and your data will stay intact throughout the process.
As always, I wish you a happy flight~
Honouring our Twitter Fanbase
I want to dedicate this month's news to our Twitter Following:
It would take too much time to thank every one of our 5'438 Followers individually.
So, just a big fat THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart needs to suffice! ;-]
I am looking forward to exciting new stories in 2020.
Secret Scribble Santa 2019 - Results
I would like to use this months news to bring attention to our Secret Scribble Santa event over on https://storybat.com/node/181.
Three stories have already been posted there and some more should follow in the coming days.
I hope you enjoy the diverse tales and maybe even get an inspiration to write one on your own.
I would also like to use this opportunity to wish you all some restful days. I hope you get what you need and I wish you good health.
Last but not least, I want to thank everybody who has tweeted about us or made Story-Bat more known in any other way. We don’t have any big marketing budget, so every little help counts. And word-of-mouth has proven to be a great attractor for new people.
Thank you for your continuous support!
I wish you a happy flight~

Secret Scribble Santa & New Writing Tips
Hello fellow Writing-Bats~
Today, I would like to focus on the following two points:
Secret Scribble Santa
We will be hosting a Secret Scribble Santa for the weeks up to Christmas/Hanuka/Festivus/what-ever-you-celebrate. It will go like this:
Important: Nobody expects you to write a book. The general guideline is 2'000 to 3'000 words but write as you see fit. For example, exceptions can be made for poems and the like which can be shorter. The only thing I really care about is that you put effort and love into your work.

Scheduled Maintenance / Linux Kernel Update
To tackle a Linux kernel vulnerability (https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/1/8/905) the following maintenance is scheduled for Story-Bat:
Maintenance Start Time: 22th October 2019, 11 PM UTC
Duration: 2 hours (actual downtime should be much less than that)
This maintenance will update the underlying infrastructure that our server resides on and will not affect the data stored within. During the maintenance window, our hosting server will be cleanly shut down, which will allow us to perform the updates.
The Story-Bat website will be inaccessible at the time. This ensures that none of the content on Story-Bat will be affected in any way and your data will stay intact throughout the process.
Thank you for your understanding.

We are now allies in our quest to bring writers together.
What is WriteHive?

Expanded Writing Family on Twitter
And now to something not so completely different: We have reached almost 3'700 Followers on Twitter!
Our reach in the #WritingCommunity is growing…
This month, I want to focus on our bigger reach on social media.
Since our last news from August, we gathered almost a thousand additional followers on Twitter! Story-Bat is very active under the hashtag #WritingCommunity, and through it, we found many great writers and readers.
If you haven’t already, please follow us on Twitter to get some inspiration for writing or meet new fellow writers > https://twitter.com/story_bat
Naturally, this also brought some new faces into our Discord server. We redecorated some of our channels and are more ready than ever to host the best writing server in this realm!
Feel free to join under > https://discord.gg/K93FVKH
Lastly, I want to thank everybody who has tweeted about us or made Story-Bat more known in any other way. We don’t have any big marketing budget, so every little help counts. And word-of-mouth has proven to be a great attractor for new people.
Thank you for your continuous support and as always a happy flight~
