- Information Collection and Use
Information Collected Upon Registration: When you create or modify your account on the Story-Bat website, you provide personal information, such as your username, password, and E-Mail address. Some of this information, such as your Display-Name, is listed publicly on Story-Bat, for example on Story-Blocks or Comments. Certain functions on Story-Bat, such as reading stories, do not require registration. Your E-Mail address will be used to contact you when certain events happen to your content or content that you follow.
Under “Settings” – “Communication” you can define for what events and in which frequency you want to receive E-Mails from Story-Bat. In the same interface you can also opt out to receive any automated notifications via E-Mail from Story-Bat.
Additional Information: You may provide us with additional information to make public on your profile-page, like information about yourself, your location, your website or your spoken languages. While Story-Bat will never use your profile-information for marketing purposes, this information is publicly available and can be used by anyone that has access to the site.
If you email Story-Bat, we may keep your message, E-Mail address and contact information to respond to your request. Providing the additional information described in this section is entirely optional.
Story-Pages, Story-Blocks, Comments and other Public Information: Story-Bat is primarily designed to help you share information with the world. Most of the information you provide to us is information you are asking us to make public. This includes not only the stories you write and the metadata provided with each created Story-Page and -Block, such as when you wrote the content, but also the people you follow or the content you favourite, and many other bits of information. Our default-setting is that unregistered users can only see your profile-page and your generated content. Under “Settings” – “Privacy” you have access to hide your “Online Status”, bookmarked content and friends-list to your liking.
Keep in mind that your public information is broadly and instantly disseminated. For example, your created Story-Blocks are searchable by many search engines. You should be careful about all information that will be made public on the Story-Bat website, not just your created stories.
Log Data: Our servers automatically record information (“Log Data”) created by your use of Story-Bat. Log Data may include information such as your IP address, browser type, the referring domain, pages visited on the Story-Bat website, and used search terms.
You can rest assured that Story-Bat will not use this information for marketing-purposes and will never sell it. We could however use it to make anonymised statistics about the usage of the website.
Cookies: Like many websites, we use “cookie” technology to collect additional website usage data and to improve Story-Bat. We do not require cookies for many parts of Story-Bat such as reading stories. However, cookies are required for proper member interaction with Story-Bat, such as signing up, logging in, and creating stories. A cookie is a small data file that is located on your computer’s hard disk. The Story-Bat website may use both session cookies and persistent cookies to better understand how you interact with the site, to monitor aggregate usage by our users and web traffic routing on Story-Bat, and to improve Story-Bat in general. Most Internet browsers automatically accept cookies. By editing your browser options you can instruct your browser to stop accepting cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie from the websites you visit. Disabling or denying cookies from the Story-Bat website may degrade performance of certain functionality.
For the donation system, Story-Bat is using PayPal and Stripe. Financial data like credit-card information is directly processed via those services and not administered by Story-Bat. Please see the respective information pages for those services:

Non-Private or Non-Personal Information: We may share or disclose your non-private, aggregated or otherwise non-personal information, such as your created Story-Blocks or the number of users who clicked on a particular link.
